3 Fast SEO Image Hacks to Improve Your Site’s Visibility

Making sure your images are optimized is one of the fastest ways to improve your site’s searchability (is that a word?) on Google. Here are 3 easy steps you can take to make sure the man in the Google car (internet car that is) can index your site fast

1.Rename the file

When you upload an image file (a hack so quick we won’t even rank it is to use Canva to resize images. Simply adjust in download settings!), the file name often looks like this:

-IMG.346

-BBQ.jpg

-Me+Jack.png

Once you’ve included your image on your site, double click it and scroll down to ‘image alt text.’ There rename your file using 3-4 keywords all separated by a space (this let’s Google know they’re different words.)

Now IMG.346 can be Kelly-Slate-Surfer-ProductionCompany.

2.Choose a high quality image

Oddly enough, Google is just like a human being (it’s made up of humans…) and likes pretty pictures. So if you’re using images on your site, make sure they are crisp, clear and high quality.

Squarespace sets an image mb limit of 20 mb, but honestly <500K should be enough to make an impression!

If a professional photographer isn’t in your budget, consider using stock photography. Squarespace now allows users to upload Unsplash stock photos for Free!

Simply drag and drop an image and click search images. Select free images and use a sourced and licensed beautiful shot. Google will thank you.

3. Rename the alt-file path

We’re not huge fans of keyword stuffing and neither is Google apparently.

However, the alt file name can be longer than four keywords. So if your file name is Kelly-Slater-Surfer, the alt file name can be a sentence like “Kelly Slater in Hawaii after surfing.”

This gives your site yet another series of words that Google can point a user in the direction of after a search.
